Google Tech Talk October 8, 2010 Presented by Jason Grigsby. ABSTRACT John Battelle recently wrote, "Mobile. It's on everyone's lips, but no one knows what the hell to do about it." You don't have to look very far to find examples that prove his point. Over the last year, Jason Grigsby has been collecting examples of where companies are making mistakes when it comes to their mobile strategies and desperately seeking examples of those who get it. In this presentation, Jason will talk about the DOs and DONTs of mobile strategy. Learn from both the outstanding success and cringe-worthy failures of others as you begin to formulate your plans for navigating the mobile landscape. Finally, we'll look at methods for evaluating mobile strategies based on demographics, mobile context, and the unique characteristics of mobile devices. Jason Grigsby was one of the project leads on the Obama iPhone Application and helped design the user inferface for the Wall Street Journal's Blackberry application. He founded and organizes Mobile Portland, a local mobile group. Jason is a co-founder of Cloud Four, a small start-up focused on mobile and web development. Seeing the Separation: Integration of Video into Vehicle Separation Testing... If you've ever been involved with vehicle separation testing you might have experienced problems when trying to interpret the large amounts of data generated. Its all very well having a mass of information on various distances, angles, and speeds, but interpreting this information usefully is often difficult. As development of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) becomes more commonplace, the methods used to develop vehicle separation systems become more advanced, leading to a need for methods that can manipulate data usably and intuitively. Responding to this, Racelogic have developed simple to use, dedicated vehicle separation functionality for its industry proven VBOX 3, which affords ADAS developers the capability to verify the accuracy of their systems effectively. Real-time vehicle separation data can be viewed in the local vehicle whilst being logged for analysis; and can also be transmitted via CAN for use by third-party systems. This feature enables the information to be seen in a more meaningful way, and by connecting a Video VBOX to the system it is even possible to observe vehicle and driver behaviour integrated with the data in a real environment. Using the CAN output, the vehicle separation data can be graphically overlaid over video, in real-time. Intel's scientists are creating detailed maps of the activity in the brain for individual words which can then be matched against the brain activity of someone using the computer, allowing the machine to determine the word they are thinking. - (ABC) It sounds like a Hollywood movie: cybercriminals in a van use a laptop to hack wirelessly into the computer-controlled systems of the car on the road ahead. In seconds the target car's engine, brakes, and door locks are under their nefarious control. Texas cops say a man hacked into GPS systems and disabled more than 100 cars. It doesn't take a great script writer to figure out what's next -- except that it's not the movies anymore. It's real -- well, almost.
